What is it?
Mo’ili’ili
Mo’ili’ili (often referred to by locals as McCully/Mo’ili’ili) is what remains of a larger Hawaiian region known as Ka’mo’ili’ili. Historically, it was an agricultural area where taro, coconut, bananas, & breadfruit were cultivated.
Today, Mo’ili’ili is a (primarily) low- and mid-rise mixed-use neighborhood – largely residential and commercial. Being central to Honolulu, it has undergone as many evolutions as any Oahu neighborhood. The lava flows and coral reefs that built Mo’ili’ili can still be found if one is willing to uncap the ground of its layers of concrete and asphalt. Still, despite its reputation as a low-key concrete jungle, it is spotted with many green spaces, is entirely located within 2 miles of the glorious beaches of Waikiki, and is adored by folks who live here.
